ValueBased.Work is an Edinburgh-based company, incorporated in early 2024, with a mission to transform employee engagement and productivity. Co-founded by Mike Davis and Russell Galt, who together bring over 50 years of experience in technology and business leadership, we are focused on building innovative solutions for workplace transformation.

Our flagship product, Val, is an AI-powered assistant designed to boost employee engagement through continuous performance tracking and feedback. Backed by a robust feasibility study, experienced advisors, and market research, we are currently working with a development partner and are set to begin trials in November. As part of our involvement in the Venture Based Incubator, we are seeking strategic partnerships, a go-to-market strategy, and financial support to further develop and scale our business.

About Us 

Mike - over 30 years of experience in technology innovation, focusing on building high-performing teams, driving cultural business transformation, and has a passion for sustainability and social justice. Outside of work, you can find Mike hanging out with his kids and grandkids, travelling with his wife, going to the gym, or playing guitars, pickleball, or chess.

Russell - over a decade of international experience in conservation and sustainable urban development, he has worked in cities across Brussels, Cape Town, Nairobi, and Edinburgh, driving projects that bring nature into balance with urban life. A lover of Scottish folk music and whiskey, Russell is also a member of the Edinburgh Speculative Society and a recent owner of a young pup named Bessie.

Peta - business change leader and psychologist with over 15 years of experience in digital transformation, AI partnerships, and change management. Based in Brisbane, she specialises in people-centric approaches to technology adoption, enabling smooth transitions for teams. Outside of work, Peta enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Problem

We're addressing the problem of global employee disengagement, where 77% of workers are minimally productive and 30% are 'quiet quitters'. This disengagement leads to a huge drop in productivity and costs companies billions in lost revenue, higher turnover, and reduced customer satisfaction. Traditional performance management systems, with infrequent reviews and limited feedback, fail to address this issue, leaving employees feeling disconnected and undervalued. Val provides a solution by enabling continuous performance tracking and feedback, aligned with organisational goals.

The potential market for our solution is vast, encompassing businesses that engage employees through internet-connected performance management systems. While the global workforce represents a broad opportunity, our initial focus is on serviceable markets in the UK, USA, and Australia/New Zealand, where cultural, legal, and language similarities make entry more practical. We are concentrating on small to medium enterprises (SMEs) as early adopters, who are more likely to benefit from AI-driven performance solutions like Val. Over time, as our platform matures, we will expand to larger enterprises and public sector organisations.

Val targets decision-makers in roles such as HR managers, operations managers, and business owners, who are responsible for employee engagement and performance management.
