Meet Health Empower Ltd.

Professor Ioanna Nixon is a senior Consultant Oncologist working in the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Center and Clinical Director for cancer services. Over the course of her career, what her patients taught her is there is an unmet need for more education on cancer, and coaching patients how to lead a good life with and beyond their disease.
AI Care was born as a result of anecdotal discussions with patients, iCARE project on what patients want, and evidence in the literature.
AI Care stands for an app aiming to provide patients with information on their cancer, and coaching on self - directed care and fostering their wellbeing.

About Us

I am an award-winning consultant clinical oncologist in the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and Clinical Director for oncology services NHS GGC. I lead on  cancer innovation for West of Scotland and have an academic role in Strathclyde university.  I founded the Empower Clinic, offering health and resilience coaching to foster wellbeing to people with cancer and their families

During COVID, to help my youngest child understand what was happening in the world, I wrote and illustrated a book (Jack Wee Rabbit is scared of Covid. Dr Betty can help). I shared this on socials and got translated in 13 languages.

Outside medicine, I am a martial artist, and a runner. I am an ambassador for 5KYW charity helping people with cancer get physically active.  I also write songs and love a good gig! Looking forward to working with everyone. 

 

Problem

Based on my work with people with cancer and their families, and the iCare Project, I see there is an unmet need for more education on cancer, and guidance for patients on how to lead a good life with and beyond their disease. 

Solution

Meeting the needs of people with cancerAI Care : making personalised wellbeing coaching for people with cancer a reality. An app to support wellbeing through education and coaching. Still prototyping, so more information to come!
