Earthwave are using space AI technology for energy-intelligence. Developing 'virtual energy inertia' to support the transition to a net zero renewable energy infrastructure.

National energy demands are constantly changing in volume, traditionally thermal power generation is fast to respond to these changes and able to maintain a balance between supply and demand. Renewable energy systems such as wind turbines are relatively slower to respond (low inertia) and therefore the balancing of the power grid has to be supported with additional, fast acting (high inertia) backup power systems which bring additional costs and their own carbon dioxide output.

Earthwave is developing accurate prediction modelling tools using a new combination of satellite and ground based sensor networks, neural networks and deep learning AI, giving advance notice of the challenges and potential stress events for the power network, allowing proactive management and reducing the need for secondary inertia management systems.
