About Us

Dr Steven Williams is a BHF Senior Lecturer & Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian. His research interest focusses on electrophysiology and cardiac imaging with insights from computational modelling. He has prior experience working as CTO with Cranworth Medical Ltd. Vinush is the software developer building the core technology for our software. He has delivered projects for NHSx & NHS Digital.

Problem

Cardiac electrophysiology is the study and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. Although vast quantities of data are collected during routine treatment of electrophysiology patients, these data are not used to guide patient management beyond individual procedures. Data collected during these procedures describes, in detail, cardiac anatomy, motion, structure and function and could therefore be used for prognostication and personalised patient treatment.

Solution

We are using these data to create digital twins for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, allowing the evaluation of personalised therapy, prior to its application in patients. Our system facilitates the integration of patient data from a variety of device manufacturers, and their assembly into a large datasets, providing the foundations for personalised electrophysiology treatment, and predictive algorithms.

Market

The AF global market size was $7.8 billion in 2023 projected to $19.5 billion in 2032 (source: imarc insights). The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 study estimated the global prevalence of AF at 59 million in 2019. With a treatment cost of £3800 per patient (higher in Europe and US depending on treatment), the Total Addressable Market (TAM) can be calculated to approximately £224 billion. Projection studies show that the prevalence of AF will rise to 15.9 million in 2050 in America and 17.9 million in 2060 in Europe.
