Meet Janki Group Ltd.

Janki Robotics seeks to democratise access to the 1.5T self-care industry by leveraging AI and robotics technology to automate beauty services like henna tattoing. We are backed by Innovate UK and have partnered with the National Robotarium and University of Stratchlyde to develop the proof of concept of the henna robot. Founded by Aisha Janki, a henna tattooing artist who validated the market by running a pop-up henna booth at festivals, generating £20,000 in revenue tattooing 1000 customers in 3 months. She is actively seeking a technical co-founder/CTO and is gearing up to raise a pre-seed funding to accelerate the development of the MVP of the henna robot.

Aisha Janki Akinola

About Us

Aisha is a graduate of Architecture from the University of Edinburgh with a decade of experience as a henna tattoo artist. Keen to share her love for henna art with more people, she started offering henna tattoing to her friends at university and soon came up with the idea of running henna pop-ups at events and music festivals. In 3 months over the summer, she managed to tattoo over 1000 customers and generated 20,000 with an 80% profit margin. With her architecture background working with 3D printers and CNC machines, she realised the potential to automate the process and launched Janki Robotics to realise this vision.

Outside of work, she is a content creator on social media with over 170,000 followers. She also enjoys yoga and mediatation in her free time.

Problem

We spend 1/6 of our lifetime enhancing our physical appearance and the average person in the UK spends £4500 annually on beauty services with no guarantee on the quality. At Janki Robotics, we are leveraging automation to provide a faster, cheaper and more precise services. We’re starting with tattoos, particularly henna, an ancient artform which has become a viral sensation with 10.2 billion views on TikTok and 139 million Google search results. Despite its popularity, henna application takes about an hour due to the intricate designs and limited availability of skilled artists. With only 10 henna salons in the UK, accessing professional services is difficult, expensive, and often inconsistent in quality.

Solution

Our first product, the henna robot is a self-contained autonomous machine that utilises 3D printing, 3D scanning and computer vision technology to apply henna tattoos to a user’s hand. It is like the self-service photo booths vending machines except the henna booth offer temporary vegan tattoos that last only 2 weeks! Customers find the nearest booth to them, select a design or customise a tattoo design through a user interface, pay for the service, and with the click of a button the AI powered robot prints the tattoo in minutes. Through our rental and leasing business models, the robots can be deployed at events (weddings, corporate functions, birthday parties), salons shopping malls and airports.

Market

To fulfil our promise of convenience and accessibility to beauty customers, we seek to partner with commercial and residential real estate operators, retailers, salons, spas and more to deploy our beauty services robots at locations they manage. Partners pay an upfront hardware deployment fee, a monthly fee, and a percentage of revenue generated from the services provided to end-users. In a post-Covid world, commercial office operators and retailers alike need innovative ways to lure consumers out of their homes. With 82% of customers returning to store following a positive in-person store experience, offices and brick and mortar retailers see the value in providing consumers with experiences that cannot be replicated at home.
