MapMortar is a virtual modelling and simulation platform to make decarbonisation retrofit planning more accurate: simplifying and financially de-risking best value net zero retrofits. Image Problem Operational emissions from existing buildings are responsible for 28% global carbon emissions, while extreme weather events globally cost £113bn annually, in a large part due to current buildings currently not being suitable for our changing climate. Retrofitting existing building stock is the only viable solution to combat these climate problems, but the pace of retrofits must increase tenfold to have any chance of achieving net zero by 2050. The speed of retrofits is the specific problem we aim to tackle. Solution MapMortar streamlines the path to decarbonisation with centralised data management in AI-enhanced digital models and retrofit simulations, accelerating the pathway to a decarbonised built environment. First, we scan open data and use AI to understand landlords’ unstructured data to create 3D virtual model of every building in a portfolio. Second, we use AI to create a simulation environment for the portfolio on which any retrofit strategy can be tested and simulated to see the actual impact. Market Our target market comprises of commercial building owners and local housing asscoiations facing devaluation due to high carbon footprint, non-compliance with climate regulations, and brand risks linked to sustainability ratings.
