Room bookings, events and catering

To make a meeting room booking please email the Bayes Centre reception bayes.reception@ed.ac.uk  with dates, times and number of guests.

For event enquiries please email bayes-events@ed.ac.uk

Visitors

Please alert The Bayes Centre reception bayes.reception@ed.ac.uk of any incoming visitors, especially those with additional accessibility needs. For those visiting full day we can offer visitors access card and access to the Wi-Fi  network.

Branding of all building areas

Building Faults

Please report any building faults to bayes.reception@ed.ac.uk where it will be reported to the appropriate University support service.

Kitchens, toilets and breakout spaces

Kitchens, toilets and breakout areas are on all floors and are shared between all building users. Please be aware that University cleaners or the Bayes Centre Team will not take any responsibility for any food/drink left behind in those areas and you should ensure they are kept clean and tidy at all times. Please be aware that around kitchen areas, particularly at lunch times are not appropriate locations for meetings.

Waste and Recycling

Shared mix recycling and general waste bins are available throughout the building with additional glass recycling offered in the kitchens. Orange lidded bins are for clean recycling. All dirty or non-recyclable items should be put in the black lidded bins.

Smoking/Electronic Cigarettes

Smoking and vaping is not permitted in as well as around the Bayes Centre

Nursing Mothers Room

If you would like access to a private room and a fridge, please ask at reception and we would be happy to provide this for you.

Children

Children are only permitted to enter University buildings for short visits and must be closely supervised at all times. Children are not allowed into buildings outside normal working hours (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm)

Mail
Incoming Mail
  • All deliveries and mail delivered to the Bayes Centre should be for business purposes only and not personal use
  • Mail will be put into respective pigeon holes for individual collection. Parcels should be collected at reception.
  • We cannot provide storage facilities and all parcels should be collected on the same day as delivery. 
  • Please inform us about expected parcels to prevent any inconvenience of deliveries being turned away. 
  • Deliveries can only accepted during Reception opening hours 9am -5pm. 
  • Each parcel must clearly indicate the recipient's name and the Bayes Centre address. 
  • For large deliveries, you must ensure that a designated individual is on-site to receive and manage the contents directly from the delivery driver.
  • Please note that we do not accept responsibility for any mail or delivery that are lost or damaged after delivery. 
  • We will not accept food deliveries at the reception desk. Please arrange to meet your delivery directly at the entrance.
  • Parcels sent via Royal mail will be delivered to the central mail room at Old College and will be distributed by our servitors so may take longer to arrive at reception. If you have any quires on Royal Mail deliveries you can contact the University mail room at Old College (Central) (0131 650 8008).
Outgoing Parcels
  • If you are expecting a courier, please ensure that your parcel is brought to reception well ahead of the scheduled collection time on the day of the pickup. 
  • All parcels should have the proper labels and documentation attached.
  • Without prior arrangement and the necessary contact details of the person responsible, couriers will leave without the parcel and you will need to re arrange collection.
Cycling facilities

A covered bicycle store, changing facilities, showers and hair dryers are available in the basement- if you would like access to these facilities please email the University Transport Department transport@ed.ac.uk
