Credit Pathway
The Data Science, Technology and Innovation programme (DSTI) welcomes applications from students who have successfully completed the University of Edinburgh’s MicroMasters in Predictive Analytics.
Learners who successfully complete the MicroMasters programme will be awarded 30 postgraduate credits. Learners who meet all the entry requirements and are successfully admitted onto the online Masters in Data Science, Technology and Innovation can expect that their MicroMasters coursework, comprising 30 credits of the total 180 credits of the masters programme, will be recognised as prior learning. Learners who apply for the Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma will only be able to have 20 credits recognised as prior learning. 30 University of Edinburgh credits are equivalent to 15 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) and approximately 6 US credits.
Completing the MicroMasters will not guarantee acceptance and the standard University admissions process and criteria will apply. Decisions on admission to the programme lie solely with the University. When applying, students must upload their MicroMasters certificate to their application. Masters in Data Science, Technology and Innovation entry requirements and application guidance
In order to utilise the credits earned on the MicroMasters towards the masters degree, learners must start the Masters in Data Science, Technology and Innovation within two years of completing the MicroMasters.
How is the masters different from the MicroMasters?
Though the DSTI programme is delivered fully online and is flexible in the sense that there are no set lecture or tutorial times, it still follows the traditional University academic year which runs from September to August. Courses run at set times throughout the year meaning that courses cannot be taken on an ad-hoc basis. Students have the choice of how many courses can be taken at any given time though we recommend that students do not exceed 60 credits per year.
